Academic Language!
Did you know that teaching someone will help you make your learning more solid? Kids teaching in the cool aid corner is a great way to show the depth of their knowledge and help others learn. In addition, this supports the use of academic language! This is a center in math time.
Did you know that all kids go to rotating centers at math time that are differentiated to their needs. During that time, I pull groups based on what they know and what they need to know next. It is a controlled action - that works to give everyone what they need. If they are in the cool aid corner, they work the camera and film each other in their group. After the kids are gone, I send the videos to my computer. This helps me know what they know, and even if I need to go back and build in some foundation. Kids have a stack of different cue cards to pull from. We add to the cue cards as we learn more concepts in math. A great way to integrate technology and give them voice and choice in their learning.

The Cool Aid Corner is up and running...
I am so excited to share the first addition (no pun intended) of the Cool Aid Corner. In our class room we have a news station where students can report about their learning! Today we started using it for teaching about different math strategies - these 2 reporters did a great job!
Way to go Joanna and Drew!

time to BURY the PUMPKIN...
To get in the Halloween spirit, we buried the pumpkin. We took time after snack to fill it with all of the trash from our snack time. We then buried it deep in the ground (thanks to Mr. Johnson for digging our holes). We made predictions of what will happen when we dig it up on Earth Day in April! It will be great to see if our predictions were right or wrong!
