Working through the WORDS... word problems!

I am including a few videos that will help you understand how to help your kids at home. I want to remind you that this all takes lots of practice and they are getting better at it every day. Greg Tang Math is a great resource to use as well. He has online games and word problems that generate.

This week we have been working word problems and really focusing on explaining why it is best to solve the way they solve it...Here are a few great examples showing what they know and using their math language!

aMAZing work

Today was in Finisher Friday - we finished and shared our STEM CART creations. Students ere challenged with making a maze that a marble would travel through. It was fun to see so much dedication to their creations. In addition, everyone loved seeing the other's work. This was a great way to show empathy (our Morning Meeting Focus for January) and encouragement for the friends in our class!

Putting all the pieces together

I love this time of the year when all the hard work starts getting applied to even bigger and better things. Today for a math warm up, we worked with groups to piece together part of the 100's chart using what we knew about 10's and 1's. Later in the day, some students applied what they know about subtraction by breaking apart a BIG number and using place value! Makes me so proud... we are really picking up steam!

a VERY special Mystery Reader

Today we were treated to a super special reader, my dad. I am so thank fil to have a dad who supports our room so much. He builds stuff for our room, moves hooks around, reads and so much more!
