Today we made brownies to show how synthesizing works when we read. A good reader has lots of thoughts...they have to make connections, predict, use their schema, infer, ask questions and search for understanding. If a reader only uses 1 thinking skill, they miss some of the yummy stuff a story can tell. Making brownies is the same way...if we only use an egg, or oil, they don't turn out so yummy.
This was a super way to introduce the idea of synthesizing (and make a yummy treat)! We will continue to practice this in our reading for the next few weeks!
