Ancient Egypt Through Our Eyes!

Check out the plays we made to show and teach all about Ancient Egypt!  I am so proud of all of the kids.  They planned, wrote, directed and created the entire play.  It was MESSY learning, but WOW - look at the finished products.

Sharing in all ways!

A little rain didn't stop our celebration of sharing!  We started the day with a picnic to celebrate all the hard work from the year!

We ended the day learning about Charitable Giving, and donating to a charity of choice (we wanted to announce the donations, but the bags got thrown away before we got back from dismissal, boo hoo). You would be proud of the students generous spirits!

We even had the joy of sharing our gratitude to our wonderful room mom. She has helped me learn so much about the Hunters Creek  Way!

A new Teacher Joined the Day!

Today we were treated to a special Guest Teacher!  Thank you Miss Siblik for helping us learn all about mummies!  She pulled a few small groups, lead the class in a wrap the mummy race (and yes I was the mummy - next year we buy better toilet paper).  Thank you Miss Siblik for treating us to a fun day of learning!

We are done!  The app we used is called ShowMe.  This would be a great way to record about different summer adventures.  I would love to see what they come up with, so please send them my way!

A SWEET treat!

Can you tell what we ate?  It's sweet to win. We loved having a snow come treat this afternoon to help end our week.  Thanks for donating to the BoosterThon!

Bringing Egypt to Life!

Today we learned how to write like they did in Ancient Egypt.  I think the kids all agreed they like our modern alphabet a lot more.  Be sure to ask about the clay that we played with!

even more digital works!

Making our Animals come to life

We are starting to build the last piece of our research projects by creating a digital presentation using the Show Me App on the iPads.  We are working with a train the trainer approach.,  Today 2 students worked with me to create and they will start training other students as the next few weeks pass.  I will continue to update the blog with these super neat presentations as they are complete!

SYNTHESIZING makes reading YUMMY!

Today we made brownies to show how synthesizing works when we read.  A good reader has lots of thoughts...they have to make connections, predict, use their schema, infer, ask questions and search for understanding.  If a reader only uses 1 thinking skill, they miss some of the yummy stuff a story can tell.  Making brownies  is the same way...if we only use an egg, or oil, they don't turn out so yummy.

This was a super way to introduce the idea of synthesizing (and make a yummy treat)!  We will continue to practice this in our reading for the next few weeks!
