What an amazing Field Day!  The weather was amazing and the kids had a blast. So proud of these kids for their teamwork!  

words THEIR way!

Every Monday that we get new spelling words, I teach the pattern to each group. To help you at home, I wanted to show you what a group looks like. Here is a sample lesson of a group working on cvc and cvce words with O! That really means short and long O words. I hope it will help you know some things to ask kids at home while they are working with their words. Just a reminder - the idea is to teach the patterns so that they can apply it to other words as they write, not just memorize them! We are teaching them to fish, not feeding them the fish!

not in the DARK!

This week we have been learning about light and how it is used. We specifically looked at shadows. We did a Shadow Walk and made our own shadows. What could be more fun than foil and flashlights!

Subtraction word problems...

Hope you aren't sick of seeing me... I just want to help parents help kids at home! Here is an example of what we are doing to teach word problems at school! Try working these problems at home for a little extra practice! Chance had 7 blocks. He gave 4 of them to Ivy. How many blocks does Chance have left? Dean had 6 ribbons. He gave 2 of them to Rose. How many ribbons does Dean have left?

ladies that LUNCH

Friday was our first lunch bunch!  All the ladies had a picnic outside and enjoyed visiting with each other. This is a huge treat for me. I learn so much about each special friend!

it's all about heat!

As if we don't have enough heat in Houston... we put it to work for us. Yesterday we used ice and made hypothesis to see how we could make it melt. After everyone tried their plan, we realized the more heat made the ice work.
