A week of KINDNESS!

Just a few snapshots from the week! We had valentines, kind notes, a surprise Mystery Reader that has my heart, and 100 days of school! Not to mention lots of reading groups, work with numbers, and building some habitats!

Making numbers friendly

Here are a few examples of what we mean when we make numbers friendly! Students who have a strong number sense and can make all the combinations of different numbers can use place value with ease to solve problems. Here is an example of a student who is working on showing a number in friendly ways, as well as an explanation from me! Let us know if you have questions!

Mixing it up....BLENDED STYLE!

Today was our first attempt to try a little blended learning in the mix of regular centers. Blended learning is an approach to teaching where some student are begin delivered instruction on a computer program, some are working hands on and others are working with a teacher. The neat thing...all are working on what they need to work on! After a little extra effort to get logged on , we were up and running. We had students working on specific assignments through MAP SKILLS, some working on iStation, and others working in independent centers with a strong focus on sight words. Tomorrow I will layer in a guided reading group at my table!
This is going to be a trial run for the next few weeks and then I will make adjustments to give everyone the best!

When you shoot for the SKY!

This we week we have been learning about day and night, and all things in the SKY! We learned about how the day and night are created, the way and reason seasons cycle, and the moon's changing face. All the stars aligned when we teach this unit on the week of a blood blue moon! We acted it out, wrote about it in our journals, and then used Draw and Tell to create a picture of what we learned! The products that the students made were out of this world!
