Specials Viewing...Today Only!

You missed your ticket for the hottest show in town... The Number Museum! Today was the first showing of exhibits 1 - 5.

Students were put in pairs and allowed to use free exploration of the math manipulatives to create an exibit that represented a number 1 to 5.  The kids got very creative with their work!  I can't wait to see what they come up with tomorrow for numbers 6 through 10.

This is a great way to teach how to use our math tools (be sure to ask why they are "tools"), work in groups and control our voices (this is a skill that still needs some practice), while at the same time learning about numeracy!

Here is a little sneak peak into the Number Gallery!

We are growing as First Graders!

In the last 2 days we have learned that First Grade is different than Kindergarten in lots of ways.  One way that we are different, HOMEWORK!

Today is the first day for homework.  I am posting a picture of my example, but really let your student be creative!  Anything goes.  Be sure to check back for more pics as our flowers get planted!

The BEST "Friday at 4!"

When I was a little girl,  my dad said "Friday at 4" was the best part of the weekend.  I never really understood it until I was grown and working.   He would come home at 4 o'clock and be so excited to know we had the whole weekend ahead of us to have fun and be together as a family.  As a working adult with my own family, I get it.  But as a Teacher, I REALLY get it!

If "Fridays at 4" are great...today was the ultimate "Friday at 4!" Today was not just the start of the weekend, it was the start of the year!  A year that I look forward to trying new things, pushing kids to meet their potential, finding each child's strengths, celebrating successes, learning from mistakes, growing together, build relationships, and haveing fun!  The BEST is AHEAD of us...and I can't wait.
Thanks for dropping in today!  See you on Monday!

WHO AM I?

As I get ready for a new year, it is always my goal to learn as much as I can about your student.  I want to know how they learn, what makes them feel successful, what scares them and what makes them laugh!  Because I spend a big chunk of the day with them, I think it is important for your to know WHO I AM.  .

I am a mother of 3 incredible kids and 1 beautiful daughter in law..

I am a wife to a wonderful man.

I am a grandmother of a precious 2 year old!

I am a little compulsive, and love to stay busy (my needlepoint fills in any down time).

I am a runner, ending the run is always better than starting.

I am a diet coke, peanut butter (no jelly) eater.

I am a volleyball fan (SHS's Number 8 has my heart!)

I am a lover of eating out!

I am a shop-a-holic (Marshall's and TJ Maxx are a favorite)

I am a TEACHER who believes that every student can learn, it is my job to find out how they learn!

This is just a little about me!  I know as the year progresses that we will work together to build the best environment for these sweet students.  I take my job very serious and you have my word that I will challenge your student to be the best they can be!  It is going to be an incredible year!

This is my sweet family (who is very rarely all together)!  I am blessed, and can't wait to make your kids part of my family.
