because we are really MATTER...

Just a little fun to put learning in action... We pretended to be atoms (the smallest building blocks of matter) and showed why a solid holds it's shape, why liquid flows, and why gasses can't be seen... sorry for the camera angle - but it still was super fun!

Knowing what we know...

It is so important to know what we know. It empowers students to take charge of their own learning. This year, we are working on keeping track of our own data, and today was a HUGE success! We have started off monitoring our number concept. Students know what they are working on and what they need to work harder on (growth mind set). Today I reassessed number concepts and students tracked their progress. I loved when Hunter said "aw man, I want to keep working so I can fill it in all the way!" Watch what they say about tracking their learning! I know that it will bring harder work and more focus on the areas they need next week.

Building Community

Did you know that we spend every morning for 20 to 30 minutes in a Morning Meeting? In this time, we greet each other for the day, share important information, we work to build community, work as a team, and learn a little bit about character! It has been amazing to see the transfer of skills into the day and how we are interacting as a class. Today we made up secret handshakes with a friend that they might not usually team up with! Here are a few great example! But SHHHH they are secret!

it does MATTER!

Today we learning's what matter is. Using one of my favorite apps, we made a little showcase of different examples of MAtter! It was so fun to hear all the little voices talking for their object! Here are a few examples, you can see more by looking in your student's seesaw account.

We love our HEROES!

It was funny to think that the kids in our class were not alive when 9-11 occurred. Today we spent time talking about heroes and their characteristics that make them a hero. Quinn said they were fearless Claire said they were strong Xaiver said they were smart Just to name a few! It was a great lunch celebrating all of those brave people that act as heroes everyday! Thank you for your service.

It's Better with a BUDDY!

We have been working with a writing buddy to make our writing better. Check out these post conferences... We are just getting better!

TALL TOWERS

We used our STEM cart to build tall sturdy towers. Not only was this an example of engineering, we learned vocabulary like sturdy, base, foundation, taller, shorter. We even applied our math vocabulary greater and less than. It may look like junk, but know these are treasured creations that have taken lots of focus to work on!
