Two Heads are Better Than One!

Today we started using our writing buddy to share our planning before writing. Students did a great job independently working with a buddy to plan their writing. The author told their story using the sketch, while the buddy listened, commented, and asked questions that didn't make sense.

Matter really does MATTER!

Today we learned that matter is anything that takes up space! Look at some of these great products that they created to show what they know!

Magic Math

Did you know that Mrs. Johnson is magic... working with one group today I amazed them with the trick in the video by guessing the hidden card.  This was a great way to practice number combinations.  An extension of the activity was for the student to "uncover" the mystery!

Small Groups...it's where it's at!

We are making great progress in 1st grade. This week we started math tubs and one of the rotations is Teacher Table. At this time, I am able to reteach concepts, review concepts, and extend concepts! I love this time getting to work with small groups. It allows me to meet them where they are and push them further!

My 5 Senses

Last week we used our 5 senses to explore the world around us. We made scratch and sniff pictures of our hurricane time, went on a senses walk and completed a senses exploration! It was a busy time smelling, seeing, tasting (really only tasting at lunch because
of food allergies), hearing and touching!

Take 2!

what a great RE-Start to the year! We spent lots of time talking about what we saw, heard, and felt during the storm. We are using our experience to create a scratch and sniff art project to go along with our 5 senses study in Science. Be sure to check back for finished projects. Even though we are calling this Take 2 - First Day of School, I am happy to say there was very little that needed to happen to make the day great and smooth. The kids feel right back into the routines they learned 2 weeks ago. Needless to say it was great to be NORMAL and welcome them back to our classroom.
