SCIENCE is blooming

We are so excited to get started on creating our first grade gardens.  Thank you to Mrs. Whilden for getting us 5 pallets.  Today we started planning what to do next.

I gave the students 2 problems, and asked them to create a diagram that would show us how to use the pallets to make a garden.

1. We had to keep the ground from flooding.
2. We had to provide a way to keep the squirrels from eating the seeds.

A few ideas the kids have were...

Samuel said "put food around the gardens to act as a distraction for the squirrels"

Joshua said "use mice traps and put a caution sign up so that kindergartners don't step on them"

Audrey said "raise the pallets on a stand to keep the water moving"

A few though we needed to spray with the Cayenne Pepper Spray.

Here are a few of examples of the plans that students came up with.  In addition, we met as a class and came up with the best of all plans.  We are excited to have my dad come build what we have drawn.  Be sure to check back for more details as we watch our gardens grow.
